Worth every penny!

I had been wanting to take this class from the first day it was announced, but held off for so long because it was a bit of a splurge for me. If you're like me and are on the fence just because of price, let me tell you -- it is truly worth every penny, and you won't regret it!!!! From start to finish, the class was so incredibly fun and educational in the best way. Benjamin, our scent master, truly took the experience to the next level, bringing so much enthusiasm and expertise as they walked us through the science of scent-making, explained the process of creating candles, and encouraged us to embrace our "artsy" side and really get creative with our creations. I decided to make a candle based upon a character from a book I'm writing, and Benjamin's recommendations helped me find scents that somehow perfectly combined to capture both an activity/place (hiking along the seaside) and a personality (hidden courage and unknown strength). It's hard to pick just one thing, but if I had to choose, I think my favorite part was getting the opportunity to smell so many different fragrances and play around with some truly wild combos -- it was like being set loose in Willy Wonka's factory where you could try a little of everything!

I already can't wait to come back again in the future, and will definitely be bringing my D&D group with me for some real-life adventuring fun! Thanks Cantrip Candles for being the absolute BEST!!

The most fun practical lab!

My friends and I had such a great time last night. We were excited to find a weekday night class that worked out well with our schedule--especially sincce we had a friend visiting and taking the class was her idea. We happened to be taking a class with two Cantrip Candles employees and we kept talking in the car ride home about how cool and fun everyone that worked at the shop was.

Ben was a great instructor and did an excellent job explaining both the science and arts part of candles, which I found to be fascinating. They were diligent in helping my friend zero in on the specific scent of a desert thunderstorm and provided excellent feedback and tips to help me build my own scent. I came in with no ideas and "followed my nose" to eventually build a candle around dragon's seaside cave, which I'm very excited about. I consider myself to be a fairly creative person, but I had no idea how much artistic vision (or artistic smell?) could be poured into candle making! It was an incredibly engaging and enriching experiment in creativity and imagination.

Overall the class was such a cool experience. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect or what I might get out of it (other than a candle obviously) and was so pleasantly surprised and delighted by the whole thing. I definitely will be dragging my local D&D group in and have already told several out of state friends that the next time they visit I want to take them to a candle making class at Cantrip Candles!

It just makes scents!

Had THE MOST fun yesterday at this absolutely delightful candle-making class! A friend and I have been enjoying what we’ve deemed #SnortGirlSummer, where we decided to immerse ourselves in an appreciation and education of the scented arts via candles and perfume. The class was the perfect "season finale" that let us truly craft our own fragrance based on whatever we wanted.

Benjamin was a fantastic guide who thoroughly and joyfully educated us on the ins and outs of scent design and helped everyone in the class hone in on their desired outcomes and what might have been missing (which involved an exciting “I have something in the back that I think will do it” motif).

I wanted to base my scent on the movie Annihilation, for which he understood the assignment immediately being a fan of that film. After I experimented with many fragrance oils (Fun fact: These last way longer and throw better in heat than essential oils), I zeroed in on a combination of Herbal Blend, Hiking Trail, Soil, and Amber Noir, with a 25% split of each pulling you this way and that, deeper and deeper into the beautiful but dangerous Shimmer.

Other students based theirs on a Redwood forest, a fantasy location in an RPG, and the concept of what it feels like to nuzzle into their partner’s neck after a hard day (🥹)

A truly educational, unique way to express your own imagination or memories! We already have other friends looking forward to joining us in a future session!

Such a fun and educational time!!

Christoff is a great teacher! It was very fun to learn about the history of Cantrip Candles and the basics of candle making. Picking the scents was perhaps my favorite part and Christoff was very helpful when creating the final formula. Would highly recommend as a solo activity or as an outing friends or family! A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

The perfect Sunday afternoon activity

My partner and I had an amazing time in this class. We not only learned about the candle making process, but also the history behind Cantrip, a store that we both love so much. We got to design candles inspired by characters or settings in D&D and get to walk away with a full unique 16oz candle that we hand mix and set ourselves and a couple of tea light samples. I can’t wait to take this class again with some other friends we have been playing ttrpgs with!
